Petaluma River Video Contest
Student PSA to Protect the Health & Vitality of the Petaluma River
Friends of the Petaluma River, in collaboration with the City of Petaluma, is offering three awards to high school students and three awards to junior high school students for the best videos answering the following prompt:
Rising Tides, Living Marshes: Protecting Petaluma’s Natural Defenses
Sea level rise isn’t just a global problem — it’s a local one, too. Petaluma’s tidal marshes and wetlands act like natural shields, soaking up floodwaters, filtering pollution, and providing homes for wildlife. As the climate changes, protecting these special places could help protect our whole community. Create a video that explores how conserving our tidal marshes can help Petaluma face the threat of rising seas — and how we can all be part of the solution.
What do you wish adults understood about how sea level rise could affect Petaluma’s wetlands and nearby neighborhoods?
How do healthy marshes help reduce flooding and protect wildlife?
What actions — from restoration projects to daily habits — can help keep our wetlands strong?
What gives you hope when you think about Petaluma’s future in a changing climate?
Prizes
FIRST PLACE $500
SECOND PLACE $250
THIRD PLACE $100
